# Cortex beta program and release phases

At Cortex, we're constantly building new features to improve operational maturity and reduce developer friction through engineering operations. Our beta program allows you to get early access to upcoming features, help shape their development, and provide valuable feedback before they reach general availability.

## Release phases

Cortex uses a phased approach to release new features, allowing us to gather feedback and iterate based on real-world usage. Understanding these phases helps you know what to expect when trying out new features.

<table><thead><tr><th>Release phase</th><th>Who can access?</th><th width="187.27734375">Purpose</th><th>Support</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Private Beta</td><td>Select group of external customers by invitation only</td><td>Test real-world use cases and gather targeted feedback from pilot customers who can handle pre-release features</td><td>Direct support from the Cortex product team</td></tr><tr><td>Public Beta</td><td>All customers have it turned on by default, but certain features may only be available to cloud customers</td><td>Offer new features more broadly while still refining details and fixing bugs based on real-world usage at scale</td><td>Standard Cortex support channels</td></tr><tr><td>Research Preview</td><td>All cloud customers have it on by default</td><td>Quickly ship and iterate on AI features</td><td>Standard Cortex support channels</td></tr><tr><td><strong>General Availability (GA)</strong></td><td>All customers by default</td><td>Full-fledged, stable release ready for production use</td><td>Standard Cortex support channels</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Cortex AI Assistant (Public Beta)

The Cortex AI Assistant brings your Cortex workspace into Slack, letting you ask natural-language questions about services, teams, Scorecards, Initiatives, and engineering metrics without leaving the conversation. Just `@Cortex` in any channel or DM, and the assistant interprets your query, pulls the relevant data from your workspace, and replies in-thread. Learn more [here](/get-started/cortex-ai-assistant.md).

**Key features:**

* **Threaded conversations with context** - Follow-up questions in a thread build on prior context, so you can drill down without restating the setup. Each new top-level message starts fresh.
* **Broad workspace coverage** - Query entity ownership and metadata, dependencies, on-call schedules, Scorecards, Initiatives, team details, deployments, and Eng Intelligence metrics (DORA, PRs, incidents, and more).
* **Prompt library** - Cortex publishes a library of prompt patterns organized by use case and role to help you get more out of the assistant quickly.

### AI Impact Dashboard for GitHub Copilot (Public Beta)

{% hint style="info" %}
This feature is available for Cortex cloud.
{% endhint %}

Measure adoption and impact of AI coding tools, starting with GitHub Copilot, across your engineering teams. Learn more [here](/improve/eng-intelligence/dashboards/ai-impact.md).

**Key features:**

* Team-level AI adoption correlated with delivery and reliability
* Impact of recent AI usage on engineering performance
* Detailed user-level AI adoption trends over time

### Custom Dashboards (Public Beta)

Easily create shared views of your key engineering metrics. Whether you’re tracking team delivery, reliability, or AI adoption, you can now design dashboards that bring your most important insights together. Learn more [here](/improve/eng-intelligence/dashboards/custom.md).

**Key features:**

* Ability to build tailored dashboards tied to your priorities
* Automatic sharing across Eng Intel users for alignment

### Workflow Runs API (Public Beta)

Trigger workflow runs programmatically through the Cortex API and integrate Cortex Workflows into your CI/CD pipelines, scripts, and automation tools. Learn more [here](/resources/beta/workflow-runs-api.md).\
\
**Key features**:

* Trigger workflow runs – Start global or entity-scoped workflow runs via API.
* Run monitoring – Get the status of a specific run, or list runs with filters for workflow, entity, initiator, and date range.
* Run Workflow action block – Chain workflows together by embedding one workflow inside another.

### Entity Relationships All Scorecards Report (Private Beta)

View performance across multiple Scorecards simultaneously in a single consolidated report. Compare how your organization performs across different areas, all in one place. Learn more [here](#entity-relationships-all-scorecards-report-private-beta).

**Key features**:

* Compare multiple Scorecards side-by-side and track total aggregate scores
* Roll up scores across entity relationships for all selected Scorecards
* Navigate hierarchical views to understand performance across teams and domains

### Incident core types: incident.io (Private Beta)

{% hint style="info" %}
This feature is available for Cortex cloud.
{% endhint %}

Our all new integration platform provides a unified, reliable way to ingest, view, and analyze incident data from incident.io. This is the first integration we are migrating to this new platform. Learn more [here](/resources/beta/incident-core-types-incident.io-private-beta.md).

**Key features:**

* **Unified incident catalog** - View all incidents across your organization in one place, with rich metadata including severity, status, affected entities, and more.
* **Multiple data sources** - Ingest incidents from incident.io via our integration platform, or push custom incident data via API,
* **Engineering Intelligence integration -** Access incident metrics you rely on today, now powered by a single, consistent data pipeline.

### Data Explorer with Tabular View (Private Beta)

Data Explorer replaces and improves upon Metrics Explorer, giving you a more powerful way to analyze trends, examine individual data points, and identify the patterns influencing your development process. From diagnosing performance issues to spotting areas for improvement, it provides the visibility needed to make confident, data-driven decisions. Learn more [here](/resources/beta/data-explorer-with-tabular-view.md).

**Key features:**

* **Tabular view with multi-metric support** - Compare several metrics side by side in a single view, making it easier to spot correlations and analyze related data without switching between charts.
* **Scorecards as metrics in tabular view** - Bring your Scorecards directly into the tabular view alongside other metrics for a unified, at-a-glance look at performance and quality indicators.
* **Refreshed UI** - A cleaner, more intuitive interface that streamlines navigation and helps you find what you need faster.

### AWS Relationship Auto-Creation (Private Beta)

Our expanded AWS integration automatically maps your AWS infrastructure into Cortex without manual entity creation or relationship management. Account entities are created for you, child resources link to their parent accounts, and you can auto-link AWS entities to other entities in Cortex using tags. Learn more [here](/resources/beta/aws-relationship-auto-creation.md).

**Key features:**

* **Auto-creation of AWS accounts entities** - Cortex automatically creates an entity for each AWS account it discovers and forms a parent relationship between the account and its AWS resources (services, databases, queues, and more).
* **Tag-based auto-linking** - Configure a source or destination tag on a relationship type to automatically link AWS entities to other entities in Cortex (such as services, teams, or domains) based on matching tag values.

### Ownership predications (Research Preview)

{% hint style="info" %}
This feature is available for Cortex cloud.
{% endhint %}

The ownership predication model leverages machine learning to infer and recommend the most likely owners of a service using signals from Git activity. This helps teams maintain accurate and up-to-date ownership attribution across their software catalog. Learn more [here](/ingesting-data-into-cortex/entities-overview/entities/ownership.md#recommendation).

**Key features:**

* View all ownership recommendations in a single page
* Accept or reject recommendations
